First of all, why are we so angry at the rich folks and capitalism these days?
What is the incentive for young people to shoot for the moon and be wealthy if you know the more you make - the more taxes you will pay?
Why do we want to overtax the rich and redistribute their wealth?
We exist BECAUSE of them.
America was founded by wealthy people who were rebelling against unfair taxation!!!
All but 1 of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence were wealthy landowners who had a lot to lose by signing
"their Lives, their Fortunes, and their sacred Honor" for a constitutionally limited government and
independence from England.
Now... why has the popular mythology evolved to equate Republicanism ONLY with elitist wealthy?
It is simply not true.
Abraham Lincoln was our first Republican president and the party was in part formed as a result of
trying to abolish slavery.
Republicans passed the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments in an attempt to help former slaves.
Southern Democrats perpetuated segregation after the civil war and instituted Jim Crow laws during Reconstruction.
Republican, Ulysses S. Grant, led Radical Reconstruction and took a hard line that
reduced violence by groups like the Ku Klux Klan and improved civil rights for African Americans with the Civil Rights Act of 1871.
Republican Teddy Roosevelt supported child labor laws and minimum wage laws for women.
DEMOCRAT Woodrow Wilson started the 1st draft in 1917.
Martin Luther King Sr. and Jr. were both registered Republicans!!! REPUBLICANS, once again, working towards ending racism.
